It's probably one of the better war series out there, and I'd have no problem putting considering it for a top ten list of WWII films. By the end of the series, every last one of them are literally struggling just to stay alive, and a few have killed non-combatants just to see another sunrise. They have little to no control over the causes they think they're fighting for. What really hit me is just how fucking helpless most of the characters are in their situations.
